Abstract
705,368. Valve amplifying circuits; automatic gain control. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 4, 1950 [Dec. 15, 1949], No. 32160/49. Classes 40 (5) and 40 (6) An automatic gain control circuit comprises a pair of valves provided with a common cathode resistance 2 of large value, the signals to be controlled being fed to the grid of the one valve, 1, and the automatic gain control potential to the grid of the other, 4. The output is taken across the resistance 2. It may alternatively be obtained from a load impedance in the anode circuit of either of the valves, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown). The arrangement is more particularly intended for use in the video amplifier of a television receiver, in which an automatic gain control voltage is derived by peak rectification of the sync pulses ; the voltage so obtained is compared with a stable reference voltage, which is applied to the grid of the valve 1 to which the signals are fed. Specifications 515,364 and 517,666 are referred to.
