755,024. Television. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and RIBCHESTER, E. Dec. 21, 1954 [Jan. 6, 1954], No. 397/54. Class 40 (3). In an interference limiting circuit for television receivers, a television signal with white extending in the negative direction is applied from the anode of the final video stage 1 to the cathode of cathode-ray tube 2 and is prevented from exceeding a value corresponding to peak white during an interference pulse by a biased triode 7 which conducts at peak white level to present a low impedance across anode load 10. Simultaneously a negative pulse appears across the triode anode load 15 and is applied to the cathode-ray tube modulator 11 so as to reduce the beam current. The effect of the pulse is limited, however, by a biased diode 12 and the arrangement is such that the total voltage applied to the cathode-ray tube corresponds to a value approximately half-way between peak white and black. The effect of the invention therefore is to cause interference pulses to produce spots intermediate black and white. By virtue of the amplification of triode 7, interference not greatly exceeding peak white produced on the screen spots considerably less than peak white. Triode 7 may be replaced by two valves, one to limit the signal across anode load 10 and the other to amplify interference signals. The levels at which the two valves become effective may differ. The circuit may be arranged for either positive or negative modulation of the received carrier. Typical circuit values are given.
