Abstract

676,786. Limiters; interference suppression. FERRANTI, Ltd., and SEARBY, N. H. July 12, 1950 [July 13, 1949], No. 18443/49. Classes 40 (v) and 40 (vi). A screen-grid valve video or audio amplifier includes a rectifier 19 whereby the minimum value of the anode potential is limited to the D.C. potential of the screen. The screen potential is derived over series resistance 13, a shunt condenser 14 rendering the time - constant long so that the limiting level is determined by the signal level averaged over a period. The values of screen and anode resistance, 13, 12, respectively, are in such a ratio that the level at which the output is limited is approximately equal to the peak signal amplitude. Modified characteristics may be obtained by connecting a further resistance, Fig. 2 (not shown), between earth and one or other terminal of the rectifier.
