Abstract

Articles which are not subjected to quenching treatment and in the use of which resistance to wear combined with tenacity is important, such as rails, wheel rims, and toothed wheels, are made from steel comprising 0,15-0,5 per cent of carbon, 0,7-1,6 per cent of silicon, 0,6-1,4 per cent of manganese, 0,5-2,5 per cent of chromium, 0,3-1,0 per cent of copper, the remainder being iron with small quantities of phosphorus and sulphur : the steel may also contain up to 1 per cent in all of nickel, aluminium, vanadium, and titanium. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 370,821, 387,865, and 405,643.
