Abstract

277,631. Royer, H. J. van. Sept. 17, 1926, [Convention date]. Rails. - Wheel rims, rails and other metal parts subjected to heavy wear are made of eutectoid steel having a perfectly eutectic structure and containing manganese but no other alloying constituents, the steel being subjected to the normal operations for producing the articles but not to any subsequent hardening, refining or annealing treatments. The pearlitic structure in the article so finished is stated to be as large as possible. An example of eutectic steel used is one containing carbon and manganese in quantities from 0.65 per cent minmum to 0.85 per cent maximum, the carbon content decreasing as the manganese content increases between these limits.
