Abstract

Alloys containing 2-99 per cent of nickel and having a lattice structure of the face-centred cubic type are hardened by including 1-10 per cent of titanium in the alloys and holding them at one or more temperatures in excess of 600 DEG C., but not exceeding 800 DEG C. The basic alloys to which the titanium is added may include alloys of nickel with copper, iron, manganese, and chromium in various combinations, and may contain small quantities of elements such as aluminium, silicon, and carbon usually present in iron and steel. The hardening process may be applied to so-called marginal austenitic steels. Specifications 375,776 and 375,777 are referred to.
