Abstract

In a process for nitrogenizing iron, steel, and cast iron alloys, the process is carried out in the presence of one or more substances which act as catalyst poisons in the manufacture of ammonia such as sulphur compounds, oxygen, oxygen compounds, water vapour and carbon compounds. In an example, the articles to be treated are sprinkled with a thin layer of cobalt oxide and then nitrogenized in the usual manner. Specification 366,838 is referred to.
