Abstract

174,580. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. Jan. 27, 1921, [Convention date]. Alloys.-Steel alloys and, in particular, those containing aluminium, chromium manganese and silicon are subjected to nitrogenization at temperatures below 580‹ C. By heating in a current of ammonia at 500‹ C., the Brinell hardness of a steel containing 0.39 per cent of carbon and 2.88 per cent of chromium is increased from 282 to 471. By similar treatment, the Brinell hardness of a steel containing 0.44 per cent of carbon. 1.07 per cent of manganese, and 1.93 per cent of chromium is increased from 298 to 500. Specification 19493/06, [Class 72, Iron &c.] is referred to.
