Abstract

Metal articles made of steel of the composition set out in the parent Specification, or of such a composition modified by increasing the content of nickel up to 6 per cent or by reducing the content of manganese below 0,3 per cent, are locally hardened by subjecting the metal to a rapid heating process, such as by an oxy-acetylene blowpipe.
