Abstract

Articles that are machined in the course of production are made from austenitic manganese steel consisting of 17,5-35 per cent of manganese, 0,05-1 per cent of carbon, the remainder being iron and the usual percentages of the common impurities such as silicon, sulphur, phosphorus, and aluminium. The practice of heating steels containing 9-16 per cent of manganese and more than 1 per cent of carbon to a temperature of 400 DEG C. to render them amenable to hot working is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes also articles of such steel containing 17 per cent of manganese. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
