Abstract

Rails, tracks, gear wheels, and other articles subjected to shocks are made by casting steel containing 0,2-0,6 per cent of carbon, 0,4-2,5 per cent of chromium, 0,3-2 per cent of manganese, 0,1-0,5 per cent of silicon, and 0,1-1,5 per cent of tungsten, with or without 0,2-4 per cent of nickel, and with or without small amounts of vanadium, titanium, and copper. In some cases all or part of the tungsten may be replaced by up to 1 per cent of molybdenum. The articles may be subjected to one or more heat treatments.
