Abstract

302,574. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Dec. 17, 1927, [Convention date]. Purifying and refining.-Cerium alone or in the form of a ferro-alloy is employed for the refining of iron and steel in association with other elements having a similar action on the impurities, such as vanadium, titanium, aluminium, calcium, magnesium, and silicon. The addition may take the form of alloys, e.g. an alloy consisting of 25-60 per cent of vanadium, 5-15 per cent of cerium, and the remainder iron.
