Abstract
A steel which, when used in the form of hardened and tempered plates, is bullet-proof and machinable contains 0,2-0,5 per cent of carbon, 0,55-0,85 per cent of chromium, 0,15-0,4 per cent of vanadium, and 0,4-0,7 per cent of manganese, with or without up to 1 per cent of molybdenum, the lower part of the vanadium range being used only when molybdenum is present. The heat treatment may comprise hardening by quenching in water from about 950 DEG C. followed by tempering for about 20 minutes at 400 DEG C., or, if molybdenum is present, at 600-620 DEG C.
