Abstract

Armour plate hardened on one side is made from a steel alloy containing about 0,2-0,45 per cent of carbon, 0,5-3,5 per cent of nickel, 2-4,5 per cent of chromium, and 0,2-1,5 per cent of molybdenum, the molybdenum being wholly or partly replaceable by about 1,5-3 times as much tungsten. The plates are toughened by hardening from above the Ac3 point and reheating to close below the Ac1 point; they are then heated on one side to the hardening temperature and then hardened on this side by quick cooling.
