Abstract

338,315. Sergeson, R. Oct. 18, 1929. Drawings to Specification. Annealing; cementation.-Alloy steel articles which have been nitrogenized at about 460-560‹ C. for about 5-100 hours are reheated to a temperature between 590‹ C. and the lower critical point of the core material, preferably about 650‹ C., with a view to decreasing the brittleness and increasing the toughness of the case. An alloy steel containing 0.32 per cent of carbon, 0.56 per cent of manganese, 0.18 per cent of silicon, 1.43 per cent of chromium, 0.18 per cent of molybdenum, and 1.3 per cent of aluminium is referred to.
