Abstract

Armour plate is made by casting, without subsequent rolling, a steel alloy containing about 0,12-0,45 per cent of carbon, 2-5 per cent of chromium, and 0,15-1 per cent of molybdenum, with or without up to 3 per cent of nickel. The molybdenum may be wholly or partly replaced by about 2 or 3 times as much tungsten. Heat-treatment may comprise hardening and then reheating preferably to not over 720 DEG C. The toughened plate may be heated on one side only to hardening temperature and then hardened on this side by cooling quickly. Specifications 369,108 and 380,742 are referred to.
