Abstract

463,555. Torsion springs. LILLY, J. Sept. 30, 1935, No. 26911. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] A door spring S stressed torsionally, engaged at one end with a bracket A secured to the door and at the other end with a bracket D secured to the door frame, is provided with self-locking means for adjusting the stress of the spring comprising a worm and worm-wheel mechanism housed in the bracket A, which is made in two halves together forming a bearing for the worm C. The worm has a projecting head for operation by hand or by a tool, and the worm-wheel, housed between the two parts of the bracket A and rotatable in bearings in these parts, is non-rotatably engaged with a member fixed to the end of the spring S. The spring may be arranged to open or close the door. According to the Provisional Specification a steel rod may be used in place of the coil spring, and the spring may act on an arm bearing on the door instead of being attached to the door.
