464,889. Concealed hinges. JACOB, M., and JACOB, B. July 22, 1936, No. 20312. Convention date, Sept. 19, 1935. [Class 65 (ii)] A concealed hinge for a vehicle door, shown in the open position, comprises a member c fixed to the edge of the door and hinged at 2 to an intermediate member b which is hinged at 1 to a member a fixed to the door frame ; a guiding lever d is pivoted at 3 to the upper edge of member. b, and is connected to the upper parts of members a, c by links e, f respectively, so that the instantaneous axis of rotation of the door moves from the axis of hinge 1 to that of hinge 2 during opening of the door. The pin 3, by which the lever d is pivoted to the member b, is fixed in the lever d and has fixed to its lower end one end of a torsion spring h which is attached at its other end to a pin i on member b ; the springs on the two hinges of a door are arranged to act in opposition to balance the door.
