Abstract

513,556. Hinges. MAIN, Ltd., R. & A., BEAUMONT, B. F. H., and TAYLOR, R. April 13, 1938, No. 11431. [Class 65 (ii)] A spring hinge for an oven or refrigerator door comprises one or more leaf springs 28 extending along the hinge axis attached at one end to a pivot pin 14 fixed to the door 10 and at the other end to a pivot pin 15 fixed to but rotationally adjustable with respect to a bracket 17 'attached to the frame. The pivot pin 15 is fixed to the bracket 17 by a locking pin 26 which passes through holes 24, 25 in the bracket and the head of the pin. The springs 28 separated by packing strips 8 are placed in slots 27 in the ends of the pivot pins and retained therein by a collar 29 held in place by a set screw 30 or by a bracket 31 and set screw 32. The tension in the springs may be adjusted by removing the locking pin 26, rotating the pivot pin 15 by means of a suitable tool placed in the hole 38 and one of the holes 24 and replacing the locking pin. In order to obtain a finer adjustment the holes 24, 25 may be arranged in the form of a vernier as shown in Fig. 5. The use of the hinge is not limited to oven and refrigerator doors.
