Abstract

482,755. Stays; hinges. SHOWELL & SONS, Ltd., E., and ALLART, J, W. Oct. 28, 1936, Nos. 29238 and 33767. [Classes 65 (i) and 65 (ii)] Pivoting adjustments.- A device for retaining windows in the open position comprises a disc 4, preferably flanged, fixed on the frame and a disc 9a, also preferably flanged, pivotally mounted on the disc 4 by a pin 9 and connected by a link 14 to a bracket 15 fixed to the sash, a spring 11 being under compression between the discs to produce the required friction to hold the window in the required position. In the simplest form, the spring bears directly on the discs, but washers 16 may be interposed, and in the form shown very smooth movement is obtained by providing antifriction balls 17 between the washers and the discs. The pin 9 is shown as integral with the disc 9a, and the parts are held together by a nut 11 secured by a set-screw. Means may be provided to limit the relative rotation between the parts; such as a lug 4c on the member 4 and a pin or stud 9d which may also serve to connect the link 14 with the disc 9a.
