Abstract

207,430. Watkinson, A., Beckett, Laycock, & Watkinson, Ltd., and Harrison, C. E. Jan. 30, 1923. Sliding - window opening and closing apparatus of t h e kind which comprises a rotating screw and a nut engaging lazy - tongs connected with the window has the fixed pivot 27 of the system of links connected to the frame at one side of the screw 14 and the pivot 30 connected to the window bracket 31 at the opposite side. The nut 19 which carries the pivot 22 has an unscrewed extension 20 which is a sliding fit on the screw. The screw has a ball bearing at the base and is rotated by screw gearing 16, 17 and a handle. The spindle 30 may be housed in a slot 33 and have a shock-absorbing spring bearing 34, Fig. 4. In a modification for wide windows, two similar systems of links may be used, one on each side of the screw, the nut being provided with a yoke &c. carrying at each side a pivot for the links.
