Abstract

377,445. Stays; hinges. MILLER, W. S., 47, Market Street East, Glasgow. Aug. 8, 1931, No. 22482. [Classes 65 (i) and 65 (ii).] A stay for doors comprises a bar, having sliding connection with the door, pivoted to a fixed bracket by means of a hollow conical plug on the bar fitting between two conical members on the bracket, the three conical parts being connected by a bolt and pressed into frictional engagement with one another by a spring on the bolt. The stay-bar 2, which has a slot engaging with a pin 15 mounted on the door, has at the hinge end a hollow conical part 1 fitting into a conical socket 3 on a bracket 4 fixed to the door frame ; the socket 3 is lined with friction material. An auxiliary conical plug 5 bears inside the hollow plug 1 on the stay-bar and has an arm (not shown) engaging a hole in the bracket 4 to prevent rotation of the plug 5. A bolt 8 passes through the three members 5, 1, 3, and carries at its lower end a milled nut 10 ; between the head of the bolt and the conical member 5 is a spring 9, which presses the three conical members together to cause the required frictional resistance to turning of the stay-bar, the pressure of the spring being regulated by means of the nut 10.
