Abstract

484,028. Hinges. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO. April 14, 1937, No. 10619. Convention date, April 27, 1936. [Class 65 (ii)] [Also in Group X] In mounting the side screen of a vehicle window, which may be rotated on vertical hinges to provide a ventilation opening, adjustable frictional means are provided in conjunction with the hinges to lock the screen in any adjusted position. Three forms of construction are described, as follows : (1) Figs. 8 and 9-The lower pivot pin 282 of the screen engages with an adjustable socket comprising a fixed member 292 and a movable member 295 secured thereto by means of a bolt and nut 297, 299, by which the frictional force on the pivot pin may be varied. (2) Fig. 11- The frame 351 of the screen is formed with a cylindrical portion 352 which engages in a recess 361 in the fixed portion 360 of the window structure, a split, resilient friction tube 365 being interposed therebetween. (3) Fig. 14- A cylindrical portion 452 of the frame 451 of the screen is extended at one end to engage within an adjustable split, expanded, screwed sleeve 484 secured to the window frame, the rotation of which sleeve varies the frictional force on the pivot 452.
