Abstract

527,517. Hinges. PERSSON, E. S. April 13, 1939, Nos. 11236 and 11237. Convention dates, April 13, 1938 and March 7, 1939. [Class 65 (ii)] A window sash, pivoting about an horizontal axis, has two pivot points on each side and when the window is closed these points are on either side of a vertical plane, parallel to the glass, through the centre of gravity of the movable window parts. When the window is partly open, the sash rests simultaneously on both pivots from which position it is rotatable in one direction on the one pivot and in the other direction on the other pivot. In the arrangement shown, Fig. 1, the sash is supported on each side by the two pivot points 10, 11. When the window is opened, the sash pivots on the point 10 with the lower end of the rib 12 rests on the inclined portion of the member M. Continued opening of the window, causes the window together with the member M to pivot about the point 10. When the sash is turned right round, it is possible to separate it from the frame by passing the pin 10 out of the slot 4. The member M is shaped to co-operate with the rib 12 attached to the sash and the rib 13 attached to the frame to form a draught excluder. In a modification, Fig. 7, the pivot point 11 is replaced by members 23, 24, attached to the frame 'and sash respectively, the member 23 having a projection 25 which co-operates with a bearing surface 26 attached to the member 24. The other pivot point 10 is replaced by a pin 29 working in an arcuate slot 30. On opening the window, the sash pivots about the point 26 and the pin 29 moves to the bottom of the arcuate slot 30. Further movement of the window causes the parts 25 and 26 to separate and the window pivots about the pin 29. When the sash is turned right round, the sash and frame can be separated by passing the pin 29 through the slot 30. The parts 25, 26 are so shaped as to form draught excluding abutments. To increase the braking effect between the parts of the hinge, the screw 29 may be adjusted, and in addition a member made from material having a high frictional coefficient or a spring used. The hinge may be provided with a cover concentric with the slot 30 part of which cover is attached to the frame and part to the sash.
