Abstract

462,600. Cathode-ray tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., WARREN, H. W. H., and SCOTT, W. J. Sept. 11, 1935, No. 25258. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode - ray tube has a metal body 1 secured to an annular ring or upstanding flange 3 sealed to a glass window 2, the ring 3 being of alloy, such as that described in Specification 449,807, [Group II], having the same coefficient of expansion as the glass 2. The body 1 may be conical and may be ribbed, stepped or corrugated to stiffen it. The narrow end 4 of the body 1 is sealed through a ring of alloy to a glass neck through which the electrodes are sealed, or, as shown, the end 4 is secured to a flanged metal disc 5 with alloy eyelets 7 containing glass beads 6 for the electrode leads. The window 2 may be curved or flat or lens shaped and may be provided with a protective shield of metal gauze or a transparent shield 8. The luminescent material is applied to the inner surface of the glass 2 or to a separate glass, mica or metal carrier, and may be arranged for viewing from the gun end of the tube.
