[Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] In sealing a thin metal cone 4, which may bear an electrode 5, into a glass body 1, it is placed over a cone 3, formed on the body, having very nearly the same apical angle, while the glass is hard but is preferably at annealing temperature, the glass being then heated locally so that the surfaces unite. In the case of a cathode ray tube, the fluorescent screen is carried on a moulded glass body whose rim is the equivalent of the cone 3, while the metal cone 4, open at the apex, is the body of the cathode-ray tube.
