[Class 65 (i)] A door or like stay comprises two main members pivoted respectively to the door and frame and pivotally connected together by a pin-and-slot joint so that the stay, when opened out approximately to a straight line, can be slightly lengthened or shortened against the force of a spring to release means which secure the stay in the opened-out position. In one form, Fig. 3, the members C, D are connected by a pin E on the former engaging a slot in the latter, the pin being pressed to one end of the slot by a spring f<3> acting on a member F which slides on member D and engages the pin E. As the stay straightens on opening the door, the curved end of member D presses back a spring-pressed catch G, pivoted on the member C, and presses a lever H against a stop c<5> to limit the opening, in which position the catch G springs back to hold member D. Further opening extends the stay against the action of spring f<3> until a notch d<3> in member D engages the end of lever H, which carries the end of the member D clear of catch G in the closing movement. In another form, Fig. 6, the pivot pin E is carried by member D and engages a slot in member C, which carries a sliding spring- pressed member N engaging the pin E and having a nose to press back and be engaged by a spring-pressed detent G on member D. In this case the initial closing movement forces member C forwards to press G back clear of the end of N.
