Abstract
623,870. Operating windows. STANDARD MOTOR CO., Ltd., BALLARD, A. E., and BELGROVE, W. J. May 22, 1947, No. 13752. [Class 20(iii)] In a window 11 hinged at 12, e.g. a vehicle rear side window, and connected remote from the hinge to the frame 15 by a handle-operated, two-element toggle linkage, the handle 23, pivoted to the frame, operates the toggle element 19 through a clutch which is spring engaged and slips as soon as the window is closed to allow the handle to move on to a predetermined position, the reverse movement of the handle being initially free until the clutch engages, the handle then extending the linkage 16, 19 to open the window. In the form shown, the handle 23 lies alongside the frame in each extreme position, and has a sleeve 24 (Fig. 4) journalled on a pivot pin 20 fast with the element 19. The clutch comprises toothed members 26, 27 on the sleeve and pin respectively, the member 27 being slidable against a spring 28 to disengage the clutch after the window is closed. The handle has a cam flange 33 which frictionally engages a pin 34 on the window in the final position.
