Abstract
660,967. Spectacle frames. HANSEN, J. E. Sept. 24, 1949 [Nov. 27, 1948], 24596/49. Class 97 (i). A flat spring member is connected to the inner surface of each temple adjacent its forward end, the said inner surface being curved forwardly and outwardly and the corresponding outer end portion of the front slanting rearwardly and inwardly to form a mitred joint when the temples are opened between which the spring is sandwiched, the latter being tensioned or shaped to exert a pressure to prevent the temples being fully opened. As shown, each side of a non-metallic frame is split and is held by a fitting 21 which engages grooves 22, 23 in the frame and has apertures 28, 29 through which a hinge pin 27 passes to hold a hinge member 24 fixed to the temple arm 14 by a plate 25. A leaf-spring 19 fitted to the side arm beneath the member 24 engages by its end 19c the surface 32 of the frame as the temple arm is hinged open, Fig. 4, and on further opening the spring is bent to provide pressure of the arm on the side of the head. This pressure can be adjusted by bending the spring.
