447,266. Generating combustion products under pressure. [Class 51 (i)] [See also Group XXVII] In a combustion-product power plant comprising a reciprocating engine in which there is in each engine unit at least one power piston 2 and one compressor piston 6, each connected directly by connecting rods 3, 7 to the same crank 4 of the crank-shaft, and in which there are as many compressor cylinders 1 as power cylinders 5, the working fluid is obtained by igniting liquid fuel in highly compressed air, with or without the injection of steam, in a pressure generator consisting of an ignition chamber 17 in which the compressed air is admitted and the fuel injected and ignited, and a combustion chamber 18 into which the burning gases proceed through a nozzle 28 separating the chambers. The compressor cylinder 1 expels compressed air past a valve 16 to the ignition chamber 17, which is provided with a fuel-injection nozzle 29 and a heating coil 30 for starting purposes. The combustion chamber 18 is fitted in the lining 21 of a jacket 22 and has an external thread 20 forming a vaporizing coil for water, in communication with steam passages 27 leading to the throat of a constriction in the nozzle 28. The fluid from the combustion chamber issues by way of a valve 32 and passage 31 to the power cylinder 5.
