Abstract

549,246. Two-stroke engines. ROBINSON, A. May 31, 1941, No. 6988. [Class 7 (ii)] In an engine with piston-controlled ports, charges are compressed in the ends of the cylinders remote from the crank shaft and afterwards transferred through passages r to annular combustion chambers at the ends of the cylinders adjacent the crankshaft. In an engine having cylinders disposed at 90 degrees as shown in Fig. 1, pump charges enter through ports o and the combustion gases exhaust through ports p into a chamber p<SP>1</SP> which lies adjacent the charge inlet passage for heating purposes. By removing the covers q the cylinder liners, pistons and connecting rods may be withdrawn.through the cylinders. When working as a fuel injection engine the pump spaces compress air and one or a pair of fuel nozzles may be provided in each combustion chamber. Charges under pressure may be supplied to the pump spaces.
