Abstract

18,803. Wells, W. W. Aug. 21. Two - stroke - cycle engines. - Mixture compressed in the crank-case, and scavenging-air compressed in the annular chamber 8, are admitted to the cylinder through piston-controlled ports 15, 17, the scavenging-air being retained in a reservoir 24 during the down-stroke in a single-cylinder engine, but transferred through a cross-over pipe 20 to the adjacent cylinder in a two-cylinder engine. The inlets 12, 13 to the pump spaces are piston-controlled.
