Two-stroke-cycle engines; cylinders, pipes for.-In a cross-connected engine having cylinders of two diameters, the annular chambers 6 forming pumps in which the charge is compressed on the instroke, the admission ports 19 from the carburetter to these chambers are at the lower ends of the cylinders, the piston trunks being long enough to cover the ports except for a short period during admission. In a three-cylinder engine, the delivery ports 15 are connected to the cylinder inlet ports 16 in turn as shown. In a six-cylinder engine the pairs of cylinders are inclined as shown in Fig. 5 and the cranks are arranged at 60 degrees. The two induction passages 19 are connected by the pipes 24 and a pipe 25 to the carburetter.
