Abstract

Gas and like engines.-In the two-stroke-cycle, tandem-cylinder engine shown in Fig. 1, gaseous charges are drawn into the pump chambers o through the inlet passages a'; a<2>, and are compressed on the return strokes into the cylinders remote from the pump chambers. In the position shown in Fig. 1, a charge has been compressed by the left-hand pump piston and is entering the cylinder r<2> by way of the port h after having traversed the annular passage between the left-band cylinder r<1> and the reduced portion of the piston p<1>. Compressed charges for the cylinder r<1> enter through the port k. If preferred, one or more pairs of cylinders may be arranged vertically to operate cranks placed at 180 degrees apart. The commutator for igniting may be mounted on the fly-wheel.
