Combustion Methods Of Internal-Combustion Engines
(AREA)
Abstract
13,555. Westinghouse, G. June 13. Gas and like engines.-A compressed charge of combustible gas or mixture enters the cylinder of a four-stroke-cycle engine during the compression stroke from a reservoir 13 into which it is compressed by a pump formed by an extension 3 of the cylinder and delivering at every alternate stroke. The compressed charge, which in order to prevent back-ignition passes in succession through two mechanicallyactuated valves 18, supplements the normal charge drawn in through the admission valve 6. The trunk of the piston 1 may be reduced so that the space around it forms the pump barrel.
