Two-stroke-cycle engines; cylinders, passages of.-An engine using crank - case compression delivers its pump charges to a chamber in the rear of a floating - piston 4 through a valve 18 in which the charges enter the combustion space between the pistons during the up-strokes of the piston 1, Screens 17 to prevent back - firing are located in the outlet passage of the piston 4. Cushioning of the piston 4 is effected by the upper end thereof entering a recess in the cylinder head and by the provision of a recess 21 into which enters a projection 9 on the main piston. According to a modification, the charges are delivered from the space above the piston 4 to the combustion space through a by-pass external to the cylinder.
