Abstract

409,541. Two - stroke oil engines. CENTRA HANDELS- & INDUSTRIE AKT.- GES., Quaderstrasse, Chur, Switzerland.- (Assignees of Michelmotor-Ges. ; 2, Paulstrasse, Hamburg, Germany.) July 27, 1933, Nos. 21158 and 21159. Convention dates, July 27, 1932. [Class 7 (iii).] In a radial-cylinder engine three or more pistons are associated with a common combustion chamber, the piston heads have inclined surfaces 12, 13 and a fuel injection valve 14 is arranged between two of the cylinders. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, pistons 4, 4 which control scavenging air admission ports 6, approach one another closely at the end of the compression stroke leaving only a small passage 21 through which fuel is injected into the combustion chamber which is formed by the larger space adjacent the head of the piston 5 which controls the exhaust ports 7. The fuel pump cam 19 is so shaped that the injection pressure diminishes at the end of the injection period. In the construction shown in Fig. 8, the piston 5 approaches the pistons 4, 4 closely at the end of the compression stroke and the passage 24 for the fuel is formed by grooves 23 in the inclined surfaces 12, 13 which widen towards the combustion chamber which is formed by a groove 25 at right angles to the ridge formed by the inclined surfaces on the piston 5. The fuel valve may discharge into a water-cooled chamber 26 adjacent the passage 24. In the modification shown in Fig. 11, the fuel is discharged through the chamber 26 into the combustion chamber 36 which is located between the two surfaces 35 of the pistons 4, 4 whilst the other surfaces 34 closely approach the head of the piston 5 leaving narrow spaces 37. As the piston 5 is arranged to lead the pistons 4, 4, the vacuum produced in the spaces 37 draws mixture from the combustion chamber 36 to complete its combustion. The invention is also described with reference to four and five cylinder engines.
