447,255. Discharge apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Feb. 4, 1936, No. 3331. Convention date, April 15, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] A gas- or vapour-filled rectifier comprises an insulating envelope having extensions in which are arranged the anodes and beneath them the control grids, and the grids are composed of two concentric cylinders, joined by one or more radial annular parts such that the outer one fits closely in the extension whilst the discharge passes only through the inner one which has a diameter not more than half the diameter of the outer one. In the form shown the grids 16 are double-walled hollow cylinders having openings 18. The outer walls have extensions 19 surrounding the anodes 14 which are also surrounded by gauze 15. A tube having three such grids and anodes may have a filling of neon at 0À2 mms. and a small amount of mercury.
