446,878. Discharge apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP MACHINERIEEN - EN APPARATEN FABRIEKEN MEAF, 30, Crosselaan, Utrecht, Holland. Oct. 5, 1935, No. 27590. Convention date, Oct. 5, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] In a gas or vapour filled tube comprising a partition in the discharge path having one or more openings of such diameter that the potential drop increases with the current in the normal working current range, the partition consists of two or more diaphragms arranged one behind the other. In one form two apertured diaphragms 5, 6, surround the anode 3 and are spaced by insulation 8 and mounted upon a collar 7 of the bulb. The cathode may be incande scent, or may be a mercury pool 2 in which case a screen 9, which may also serve as excitation anode, is employed to maintain the vapour pressure near the anode constant. Either of the diaphragms may be connected to the anode through a resistance 4 for starting purposes. The diaphragm spacing may decrease near the apertures, which may be of different sizes. A perforated insulating member may space the diaphragms about the apertures, of which there may be several. Several diaphragms are used in a tube for short-wave generation.
