630,259. Electric condensers. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Oct. 18, 1946, No. 31080. Convention date, Feb. 17, 1943. [Class 37] A lead-in insulator in the wall 1 of a pressure vessel for housing an electric condenser comprises a ceramic insulator 3 intermediate securing pieces 2, 4 and a second insulator 6 containing a membrane 15 which collapses at the pressure normally prevailing in the pressure vessel. A partition 16 having an aperture- 17 is provided so that in the event of failure of the insulator 3 under pressure of the gas in the pressure vessel, the escaping gas will be throttled by the aperture 17 and the fragments of the insulator will be contained by the partition. The membrane 15 collapses allowing the gas to escape without subjecting the second insulator 6 to any substantial pressure. Annular rings 20, 21 are provided to prevent corona discharge.
