Abstract

506,122. Discharge apparatus. PATENTVERWERTUNGS-GES. HERMES. Aug. 8, 1938, No. 23403. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] In a high voltage gas or vapour filled electric discharge device in which there are one or more intermediate electrodes between anode and cathode, a conductive screen 12, maintained approximately at the anode voltage, is arranged between the anode 8 and the wall 1 of the vessel, and a part of an intermediate electrode 3 projects at 15 into the gap between the screen and the anode. The anode arm is of glass or a number of ceramic sections soldered together at their metallized ends. The intermediate electrodes, each comprising stepped concentric tubes 4, 5, 6, 7 are supported by rings between the tube section 1, and are maintained, e.g. by a capacitative potential divider, at such potentials as to give a uniform potential drop along the anode arm and to act as de-ionizing screens. The anode 8 is carried by a lead 9 on a metal plate 10 which closes the end of the anode arm and on which is mounted a graphite block 11 and cylindrical screen 12. The concave anodo may thus be adjusted without altering its distance from the block 11. The plate 10 and anode may be connected by a high resistance 14 or by the insulating block 13 which may have the desired resistance of say 10<4> ohms. A spherical screen 16 is provided.
