Vacuum tubes; lowpressure metallic-vapour apparatus. - An annular alternating - current discharge within an annular chamber is controlled by a variable magnetic field passing radially through the discharge chamber. In one arrangement, both electrodes 2, 3 are annular, and the tube is situated within a magnetic core 5 having annular pole-pieces and windings 4, 4<1>. Both electrodes consists of mercury or of incandescent filaments. In another arrangement, the annular chamber opens into a condensing chamber containing the anode, which is then of disc form; the electromagnet is of " pot " form.
