442,893. Automatic catches. HOPKINS, C. Y., and CARTLAND & SON, Ltd., J., Armoury Close, Bordesley Green, Birmingham. Aug. 18, 1934, No. 23827. [Class 44] A fastening arranged to hold a window or the like closed or slightly open comprises a spring pawl engaging a short rack or the equivalent, the end of the latter being engaged in the closed position. In the form shown, the pawl 1, pivoted at 2, is provided with a spring at the pivot to press it into engagement with a member 8 which has notches to receive a tooth on the pawl and a squared end over which the pawl engages when the window is closed. In a modification the member 8 is provided with teeth for engagement by a hole or recess in the pawl, and the pawl is formed of springy metal instead of being pivoted. Specifications 18381/12, [Class 65 (i)], and 344,650 are referred to.
