Abstract
An electrical insulator of a ceramic nature is made from a magnesium silicate mass containing about 70 to 90 per cent soapstone or talc, and barium oxide or a substance which gives barium oxide or burning, in the substantial absence of "alkaline materials." Clay may be added. In an example the following composition is burned:-Soapstone or talc 90,5 per cent, plastic clay 3,5 per cent, witherite (barium carbonate) 6 per cent.
