Abstract

422,128. Road-surface treatment. PAGE, L., (Representative of PAGE, G.), 76, Manville Road, Balham, London. July 5, 1933, No. 19061. [Class 107] Relates to road-surfacing machines of the kind comprising containers for tar and sand or gravel, heating and spray - ing means for the tar, distributing means for the sand or gravel, and a transverse inclined brush disposed in advance of the tar sprayers. According to the invention, the containers 4, 16, are formed separately trom each other and are partially superimposed one upon the other, and have their bases inclined downwardly towards their respective outlets. Further, means are provided for tilting the containers about one end. In the construction shown, the tar container 4 is heated by a furnace 5 and is provided near its outlet with a perforated spraying tube 9 and a hand-controlled valve 6 for regulating the supply of tar to the sprayer. The sprayed tar is spread evenly over the road surface by a brush or a strip 10. The gravel or sand container is mounted upon the container 4 and has near its outlet an agitating device comprising a spiked shaft 17 which is driven by the road wheel 3. The sand or gravel is spread evenly over the road by a trailing member consisting of a number of transverse rods 37 flexibly connected by links 38. The containers are tilted by a screw and nut device 11, 15, the screw 11 of which is rotated by a horizontal manuallyoperated shaft 14 through bevel gearing 13. The sweeping brush 22 is supported by pivoted arms 23 and a chain 36 and is driven, through chain and pinion gearing, by the wheel 3.
