Abstract
120,428. Hendry, W. Nov. 7, 1917. Surface treatment with liquid or semi-liquid materials.-Relates to apparatus for spraying tar and distributing stone chips on to roads, of the kind in which a wagon for chips is fitted at the rear with a chip-distributor, in the form of an open-topped hopper having a bladed or spiked shaft, and with a tar spray having a pipe flexibly connected to a tar boiler coupled up in front. According to the invention, the hopper and the tar spray are removably secured to an ordinary end-tipping wagon without structural alterations in the wagon. In the construction shown, the hopper 12 is bolted to the undersurface of the wagon 1, and contains a rotary bladed or spiked shaft 17 driven from the road wheels of the wagon. The tar-distributor 10 is supported by brackets 6 fixed to the wagon, and the pipe 4 passes freely through an eye 8 carried by a bracket on the rear axle.
