Abstract

418,951. Water-tube steam boilers. SIEMENS - SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.- GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Feb. 6, 1934, No. 3881. Convention date, Feb. 6, 1933. [Class 123 (ii).] A 'once-through' tubulous steam boiler is de-sludged during working by introducing flushing medium, additional to the working medium normally present, into the tube line or coil to be cleaned at a point not nearer the inlet than that at which evaporation commences and withdrawing it at a position further along the tube. Flushing medium is introduced into the two parallel coils 1, 2 of a generator at points 5, 6, and is withdrawn at points 7, 8. Non-return valves 9, 10, or the like in advance of the point of withdrawal prevent a backflow of working medium during de-sludging. In one arrangement the supply to one coil group is taken direct from the feed pump and to another from another pump. A mechanical sludge separator 50, Fig. 4, may be inserted in the coil portion through which flushing medium is passed. In modifications separate separators with separate or common outlets are provided for different coils. The de-sludging portion of the coils is preferably arranged at a position of relatively small heat intensity, e.g. in a flue communicating with the furnace chamber.
