Abstract
417,983. Valve gear; casings. COMPAGNIA NAZIONALE AERONAUTICA, 23, Via Sistina, Rome. March 21, 1934, No. 8870. Convention date, March 21, 1933. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi).] In radial-cylinder engines, the radial valve - actuating shafts 1 are arranged to drive the cam shafts of two adjacent cylinders instead of the two cam shafts of the same cylinder. In the form shown, the shaft 1 is geared by bevel wheels 7, 8 to a gear wheel 9 meshing with pinions 2 on the cam shafts 5. To allow for expansion of the cylinders, the casing 3 enclosing the gears 7, 8, 9 is not rigidly connected with the cylinder heads, but is connected to two casings enclosing the cam shafts 5, by means allowing relative movement. The casings 4 are provided with extensions 6 secured in holes at the rear of the casing 3, by nuts 11 which are not very tightly screwed up. A universal or like joint 13 is provided in the shaft 1.
