481,716. Valve gear. BARBAROU, M. J. B. July 27, 1937, No. 20781. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1936. [Class 7 (vi)] The sleeve valve actuating shafts 16, 21 of a radial engine are driven by pinions 10, 11 on the shafts engaging the toothed periphery 9 of an annulus 5 free to rotate and carrying planet pinions 7 engaging a fixed internally-toothed rim 6, other pinions 8 coaxial with the pinions 7 being arranged to gear with a central pinion 2 on the engine shaft. In an engine having two series of radial cylinders, one set of shafts 21 corresponding to one bank of cylinders is made longer than the other set 16 belonging to the other bank of cylinders. The velves 20 are actuated through ball-shaped cranks 18 and links 19 hinged at 27 to the valves.
