Abstract

200,287. Prestwich, J. A. May 11, 1922. Valve gear.-Each cylinder is provided with two cam shafts s having their axes arranged in a plane, at right-angles to the crank shaft. Only one cam shaft is shown, driven by a bevel wheel 2 from a central bevel wheel v, but a second cam shaft is arranged symmetrically to that shown and is driven from the opposite side of the wheel v. This wheel v is carried by a shaft m<1> connected by a dog clutch to a shaft m driven by bevel gearing from the crank shaft, the clutch being surrounded by a sleeve q. The cam shafts are arranged at one side of the cylinder head and actuate the valves through levers 6 mounted so as not to interfere with the cooling-fins on the cylinder head.
